What Is Vulvodynia?

Vulvodynia is long lasting pain in the vulva. This pain can feel like a burning, throbbing, stabbing or soreness. Vulvodynia can affect women of all ages. There is usually no changes to the vulva but it can feel uncomfortable and painful. The pain can affect any part of the vulva or all of it, it can also come and go. Vulvodynia can have a huge impact on your life, it can affect your mental health, your sleep, and your sexual relationships.

Causes of vulvodynia are not known although it is thought to be related to several things. These include damage, irritation or over-sensitivity of the nerves in the vulva. Previous vaginal infections, or changes in levels of hormones like oestrogen. Weak pelvic floor muscles.
