Endometriosis

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a disease in which similar tissue to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as ovaries and fallopian tubes. Endometriosis can affect women of any age, including teenagers. This is a long-term condition, which can impact your live significantly.

Symptoms can include pain in your lower tummy and back, which is usually worse during your periods. Period pains that stop you doing your normal activities. Pain during and/or after intercourse. Pain when urinating or opening bowels and may have blood in urine or stools. Feeling sick, constipated, or having diarrhoea. Some women also experience difficulty getting pregnant. Some women have heavy periods. The impact can also affect women’s mental health and may lead to depression and anxiety.

Living with endometriosis can be difficult to deal with physically and emotionally.

Causes of Endometriosis are not understood, some things are thought to potentially impact, these may include. Genetics, this condition tends to run in families, and affects people of certain ethnic groups more than others. Problems with immune system, the body’s natural defence against illness and infections. Endometrium cells spreading through the body in the blood or lymphatic system, a series of tubes and glands that form part of the immune system. However, none of these explain why endometriosis happens.
